If a decade ago the “theme of the day” was Full HD, and five years ago the 4K revolution, then for at least 1 year the most exciting theme in the world of TV is When will 8K inherit 4K? Yes, the question is really “when”, not “whether”. Because the 8K invasion is already underway, and the most avant-garde companies are investing huge sums in the development and sale of increasingly sophisticated 8K TVs despite their higher prices and much more difficult to create and distribute content.
The following few technological facts are confirmed by the capabilities of Samsung’s new top QLED 8K TVs and show why the near future of home entertainment will be measured in the proportion of 7680 × 4320 pixels.
FACT 1 – 8K makes the difference visible on larger TVs
Hardly anyone would argue that the larger TV size matters? In recent years, one of the most popular sizes for TVs is 55 “, and the baton is now taken by 65” and the ever-increasing variants. Think about it: 10 years ago, 42-inch TVs were something like the “gold standard,” and 10 more years ago, we watched 21-inch CRT models and looked like a marble cube. If we follow this interesting mathematical logic, it would follow that in 2030 the most sought-after TV size (if the size doubles every 10 years) should be at least 84 inches. We will see!
I talked about inches and sizes not by accident. Because modern movies and hit series are offered in an increasingly high-quality form (Ultra HD 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos, etc.), which otherwise would not be visible if you have a TV smaller than the monitor in your office, right? That is why their size is constantly growing – at the expense of thickness. To enjoy 4K quality, you need a TV between 43 and 65 inches, but what will we do when in a few years 80-inch models are widely available at good prices?
This is where the 8K content will come in handy, which needs new models of panels with four times higher resolution than today’s mass 4K. Larger TVs also need even higher resolution video content to deliver the perfect picture. And they do great – you’ll find out how soon.
But there is another fact that undoubtedly makes sense to buy an 8K TV today. This is due to the fact that on larger TVs, a higher resolution is necessary for a good picture. This indicator is measured by the so-called. PPI (points per inch). In short: if the resolution is maintained and the size of the TV is increased, then this indicator drops. With 8K resolution, this indicator is improved, as well as the picture quality.
FACT 2 – Technology models design and appearance
Samsung is a pioneer and leader in the 8K TV segment, so obviously it has the most to show. The latest top 8K models for 2020 (Q950TS and Q800T available on our market) prove that progress in terms of design can be achieved annually.

If at 4K you have 8.3 million pixels for each frame, then increasing to 33 million is a significant jump, but not only in quality. Unfortunately, the required width of the Internet connection, the capabilities of the processor, even if you want – significantly increases the cost of equipment for recording and processing of video studios that create movies.
However, today cameras that capture 8K video are widely offered and bought, with some (such as the new Black Magic model) even shooting at 12K, then downloading the recording to the 8K standard. How all this will affect Internet connections and streaming giants, such as Netflix, Amazon, HBO, YouTube, remains to be seen. But one thing is clear – they will adapt to new consumer requirements.
And another very useful feature – Adaptive Picture. It distributes the light within the specific scene so that the TV provides a clear picture in bright rooms with optimal contrast. Quantum HDR, on the other hand, uses the HDR10 + standard to dynamically adjust frame by frame each scene of the beautiful movie you’re watching. As long as he maintains the technology, of course.
FACT 4 – The brain is the one that processes visual information
This fact imperceptibly overflows from the previous one. When you need to show 8K video, you definitely need significantly more processing power, not just a high-speed connection. Therefore, the “brain” of any TV – the processor, is extremely important for picture quality. The processor used in Samsung’s Q950TS and Q800T models is called the Quantum Processor 8K and can easily convert any type of video signal to 8K, using its sheer hardware power in combination with AI machine learning and AI Upscaling – adding additional information to the video low resolution.
This makes it possible to obtain great detailed textures and outlines, the noise in the picture is significantly reduced, clearing pixel by pixel, and in the end the image is as sharp and realistic as possible.
